Quaker Wedding

I’m including a wedding announcement of my Grandparents, clipped from the newspaper of their November 1946 nuptials. Some of the cute details that I never knew about was 1.) her mother-in-law wore black to the wedding (not sure if wearing black is the same social meanness as it would be today) and 2.) there were gardenias in my Grandmother’s Bible.

The article also talks about my Grandmother’s dress and bonnet- she made these herself and I still have them, in perfect condition in a cedar chest that I inherited from my grandparents. I almost wore the bonnet to my wedding, which was done in a Quaker style but I couldn’t pull it off. I definitely did not wear the dress because as my grandmother used to always remind me, “Jenny! You could never squeeze yourself in it!” Thanks Gram!

Hope everyone had a great day today! I worked a shift at my day job but am so grateful to say that I love my job, so it rarely feels like work. Until next time…
