Chickens….and other musings

Today was a luscious extra day off due to MLK day- and my wife, Nikki actually had it off with me today too! So we actually had two days off together in a row! I’ve been working a lot of Saturdays for work recently. We celebrated by watching some of our favorite littles. We aren’t Aunts by blood but we sure are by heart and they bring me a lot of joy when life feels too heavy.

I am going to be away from Gram for longer than usual since I won’t be working close to her nursing home for the next few weeks. It will be hard to be separated from her, but I’m hoping working on this project will help make us feel closer.

With the new year and a new decision to live for joy, I am also working on a new project...chickens! I have been obsessed with chickens for a while and have been inspired by my brother in Maine’s large flock that he raises along with his pigs. So I finally convinced Nikki to let me have my ladies (no rooster for us, unfortunately. We want our neighbors to not hate us). My Mom found this perfect book for me in which E.B. White, author of Charlotte’s Web and Stuart Little corresponded with another writer who lived in Maine. Part of what they discuss is caring for chickens! It is apropos for my two current joys: letter writing and chickens!

I leave you with a short note from my Grandfather...
