Getting personal on the internet…

I am getting close to being done with my Grandparents letters. I want to savor the last few since I know it will be over soon. My next plan is going through my own letters. I’m a little more hesitant sharing those because the subject matter is me and it is hard getting vulnerable and allowing strangers in on an intimate, private part of my life that was so dear and special. Also, I know people still have very strong negative opinions about the subject matter. Even in 2021 there are people who care more about the gender of the person I love than how that person makes me feel. But  to quote my dad,  the greatest political act I will ever do is to live my life openly and proudly to show “the haters” (he didn’t use that term) that I am a person just like them who happens to love women. So dear readers, I will not stop this project now. You will have more letters, but they will be my own from the 1990’s.

Until then, the next sweet letter.

Dearest,                                                                                  April, 30, 1947

I am in Goldsboro after having been to see Luther in McPherson tonight and being stuck in the mud. He is thrilled over the prospect of our living there this summer. Tomorrow I will go to Belvidere on Khan’s car. I might finish everything in time to return on Friday night. That will get me back to Greensboro before night on Saturday. Will be anxiously looking forward to seeing you.

Dearest One,                                                                         Thursday

I am seated in Khan’s car in front of the Catholic Church in the shade of some oak trees writing to you. I wish that you were here.

It will be easier for me to go to Belvidere now that I have the car. Maybe I will get the chance to come home tomorrow afternoon which will get to Greensboro earlier on Saturday.

Fredric Carter is to be at Neuse for Monthly Meeting on Friday night and I might be able to go back with him on Saturday. My people are to ask him. They are getting the work well along on the parsonage for Mr. Timette [?].

Khan may let us use his car somethis summer. Perhaps we can get him to let us use it the last week in May. Also we may get to use it while we are in Edenton and also with Luth McPherson.

Luther seems very thrilled that we are going to be with him for the school- and it seems that we will have both in his churches. He wants us to stay in the parsonage with him which will save a lot of driving.

I hope that you are not working too hard and that you are getting some needed rest. It will help you a great deal to get away from Greensboro. I know for I feel a great deal better myself and would feel better if you were with me. I shall be looking forward to Saturday.

Love,

Ted
